Downtown Juneau:

Restaurants:

El Sombrero our favorite Mexican Restaurant! Locally owned and operated — try the Halibut Tacos, they are one of their specials! Yum! Oh, and buy some of their house salad dressing to take home with you!

Hangar on the Wharf or Twisted Fish for a view of the harbor and great Alaskan seafood!

McGiveny’s Sports Bar — in the Goldbelt Hotel! Best burger in town!

Pizzeria Roma — when you really need a tasty homemade thin crust authentic Italian pizza! 🙂

The Rookery Cafe — oh my, you will feel as if you have been transported — far beyond the coffee house/restaurant it started out to be!

Saffron – Indian Cuisine — amazing!

 

Must do’s:

State Museum — just reopened!

City

Museum — until the State Museum is complete the is one of our must sees!

Mt. Robert’s Tram — even I who hate heights can handle the quick trip to the top. It is well worth the time and effort to see Juneau from this perspective and to be up-close and personal with the alpine! (You get to see this on our Bike and Tram Tour!)

Juneau Arts & Humanities Council Building – there is always an art show going on and often other events that are well worth your while! Check out their website for what is happening when you are in town!

Juneau Douglas City Museum – a fun little museum that shows the colorful mining history of Juneau!

 

Shopping:

Foggy Mountain Shop – the clothes we live and work in! Great outdoor wear for all your outdoor activities! It is owned by Scott and Betsy Fisher — great friends and great people; and they know their stuff!

Boheme — women’s clothing! Amazing unique, upscale!

Shoefly! – OK, I may live in the rainforests of SE Alaska but I love cool shoes! Love them!

Annie Kail’s – the unique shopping in Alaska! From artwork and jewelry to unique Alaskan pottery and jelly beans, there is something for everyone! A must visit!

Trove — my “candy” store. Something there is perfect for everyone!

 

Downtown Douglas (on Douglas Island)

Restaurants:

The Island Pub – I am not sure if I like the handmade pizzas best or the steak salad! Great place for dinner! Cool decor!

Douglas Cafe – one of the best burgers in town and fantastic soups!

 

Must do’s:

Sandy Beach – beautiful place to take a walk and enjoy the beach (experience the dramatic tidal shifts we have) and the view! Take the time to walk down the Treadwell Trail and see some old remnants of the mining history of Douglas.

 

Valley and Out the Road (that means past the Mendenhall Valley Area):

Restaurants:

Chan’s Thai Kitchen authentic Thai cuisine! Wonderful! Dinners only.

The Hot Bite in Auke Bay Harbor- summer operation only; fantastic burgers and handmade, homemade shakes! Yum!

Southeast Waffle Company – superb, imaginative waffles and great coffee! What a combination!

Must do’s:

Mendenhall Glacier and Visitors Center — this is Juneau, Alaska after all! (You get to see this on our bike and Brew Tour!)

Shrine of St. Therese — an amazing old Catholic Chapel set in an amazing location out the road!

DIPAC (Douglas Island Pink and Chum) Fish Hatchery – who know a fish hatchery could be so fascinating!

Shopping:

Nugget Alaska Outfitter – great clothing for the outdoors of Alaska and beyond! In the Mendenhall Mall!
